The Founders of the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation, Captain Panagiotis N.Tsakos and Mr. Nikos Tsakos, believed it necessary to have, in addition to the Board of Directors (BoD), a 13-member Scientific Council (SC), comprised of eminent specialists in those discipline areas where the principal activities of the foundation are concentrated.

The diversity of the members’ background and experience (see short biographies below) assures that projects designed and undertaken by the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation, ranging from research on seamens’ health and wellbeing to encouragement of young people to enter the maritime profession to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through establishment of yearly prizes, to name just a few, are of the highest quality and relevance to the maritime community and to its most vital resource, i.e. the people at all levels that make it possible and successful.

The SC helped formulate and express the Vision and Mission of the Foundation, in accordance with the aspirations of the Founders, that have enshrined the principles, values, and objectives that the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation holds forth as its guide and inspiration. Thus, the Foundation aspires to establish a strong and lasting footprint in the maritime industry that will be viewed as a pioneering institution and a model  organization of its kind. The SC, working together with the Founders and the BoD will work diligently to make this possible.
